The Records and Archives Project Officer will work with the Digital Archivist and Records Manager to deliver high quality records and information management services  to the MRC, including London and Swindon Offices and MRC Research Units and Institutes. The Records and Archives Project Officer will champion a culture of good information management across the organisation, acting as a centre of excellence for advice and supporting the development and implementation of related policies.

Main Duties/Key Responsibilities

  • working with the Digital Archivist and Records Manager to manage the electronic record management system, including file plan, users’ accounts and access privileges
  • working with the Digital Archivist and Records Manager to apply disposition schedules within the electronic record management system
  • providing end user training on the record management system, maintaining the training material and developing it in response to business needs
  • answering users’ queries and helping resolving them, sometimes in collaboration with the IT support team
  • working with the Digital Archivist to manage the accession of data/records from business systems and/or external sources into the corporate records system
  • working with the Digital Archivist to proactively manage electronic data/records needing medium-to-long term preservation
  • working with the Digital Archivist to transfer electronic records of enduring value to The National Archives
  • contributing to development of procedures and workflows for accession, description and preservation of electronic records in corporate information systems
  • assisting projects, as required
  • provide cover for Line Manager and others as required
  • undertaking any other duties appropriate to the post's band delegated by your line manager or Senior Management.

Reporting to: Digital Archivist.

  • other teams in the MRC Head Office (Swindon and London)
  • record Management contacts in MRC research units and institutes.
